Despite the maintenance work we have done on 3rd of February to improve the performance of our internet , we are still having problems with sites not loading correctly, constant buffering of video clips and the internet being generally painfully slow to load.

The source of the problem is with our web filter and having spoken with them this morning they have advised us to make a change to the way the filter operates (inline to sideways mode). This change will affect the way staff laptops access the internet at school and therefore it is important that you go through the steps using the link below to ensure your access to the internet is not disrupted for your lessons on Friday:

http://www.theclc.co.uk/blog/2012/02/29/changes-to-internet-settings/

Please note we will be making the change to our web filter this Friday (2nd of March 2012) at 07:30am and we are expecting access to the internet to resume as normal between 8:00/8:15am (Nikki could you please relay a message to staff as email access will not be available during that timeframe)

IT Reference Number: #ITS32103

Due to the Citrix outage 40 days ago, we are currently performing critical maintenance (integrity check) to our staff mail storage database. This is essential unplanned work which has to be undertaken to ensure that we are able to run email backups.

We are anticipating the email facilities for staff to be accessible around 1/2pm today. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

UPDATE @ 17:15pm

There was an issue with the integrity of the mail storage databases (Students, Halesworth Middle) which resulted in the backup failing due to consistency issues. This was most likely caused due the power outage we had in April 2011 which resulted in a “dirty shutdown” of our exchange server and happened most likely whilst the server was writing to the mail storage databases.

We had to dismount the mail storage databases (taking the email facilities offline) before we were able to perform the ntegrity check (eseutil /g databasename). The result database corruption issues. We have now repaired both students and Halesworth Middle staff mail storage databasses (eseutil /p databasename) and manage to ran a full backup of our email facilities without errors.

Again apologies if you had any issues getting to the email facilities today however the work was essential for disaster recovery purposes.

Rick

The following maintenance is planned for summer half-term (Week commencing 30th May):

Virtualization of physical server: FILESERVER – Related IT Request: ITS24724
This will not affect access outside school however will prevent printing from the network, access to the K drive and will cause logging on issues as profiles are stored on this server. This maintenance will mean that our last physicial core server is virtualized and will enable us to increase the harddrive space (which currently is very low and is causing printing issues)
Expected outage: Friday 27th May at 16.00pm till Tuesday 31st May 16:00

Update @ 29/05/2011 - 15:14 >>>

Virtualization of fileserver is now complete. We will be testing the server on Tuesday 31st to ensure everything will be available as normal.

Apply hotfix (KB978389) to VLE (SharePoint) – Related IT Request: ITS24564
Backups are currently skipping .dwt files, this is a known issue and is causing files to skip on our backup. Applying the hotfix should rectifiy this issue.
Expected outage: Wednesday 1st June 09:00am till 12:00pm

Update @ 25/05/2011 - 10:46 >>>

We will also be renewing all of our SSL certificates on Xenapp (Citrix), Mail (exchange10) and VLE (Sharepoint) to ensure that all data communication between the client and the server is encrypted.

If any of the planned maintenance work is not going as planned we will update this page with further information.

If there are any issues with this downtime please let us know well in advance so that we can review the maintenance schedule.

Update @ 01/06/2011 - 20:23 >>>

All maintenance has now been completed and went as planned.

Update @ 10/06/2011 - 09:02 >>>

Following the virtualization work of our last physical core server (FILESERVER) over half term (IT Request: ITS24724) we have been experiencing intermittent issues with user profiles loading correctly. This has resulted in the desktop icons or the N: Drive not always showing/loading correctly. We have also noticed a bandwidth high load on our core virtualization infrastructure (Citrix) since virtualizing the server.

We will therefore be returning to our physical server and turning it back on at 3:45 pm today. Whilst we are carrying out this work you may be experiencing the following issues:

Unable to print documents

Unable to login correctly, user profile not loading, count down timer

General slowness of the network

Unable to access to the K: drive

Unable to access curriculum documents and software

Please note that this will primarily affect curriculum machines and not admin ones.

Sorry for any inconvenience.
